Coaching Tip - Aiming Point

You know you want to get your bowl to the jack.  As you get on the mat and set up for your shot, you might be thinking about the jack and how to bowl to it.  Thinking about the jack, you lose sight of the right aiming point.  You're focused on the wrong thing.

Here are the steps to a successful shot.

BEFORE GETTING ON THE MAT:

Decide upon an aiming point (in most cases, the outside boundary line on the boards for your rink is a good aiming point

*** Your skip may give you "grass" which is another term for the aiming point.  If so, your aiming point is the skip's foot ***

Pick up your bowl and make sure it's sitting properly in your hand.

Check the BIAS - is the bias correct for your chosen shot?

ON THE MAT:

Focus ONLY on your aiming point.

Line up both feet towards your aiming point.

Focus on the weight of the shot required.

DELIVERY:

Roll the bowl smoothly toward your aiming point.

CELEBRATE A SUCCESSFUL SHOT
